Margaret South loves writers. She even married one.
Ms. South founded All Girl Productions with Bette Midler and Bonnie Bruckheimer. She developed feature film projects for Disney, Fox and Tri-Star Studios, HBO, ABC, and NBC. She produced the feature films For the Boys, and Man of the House, as well as the beloved Beaches.
She also created the innovative Kids Talk Story curriculum. In 2007, The Hawai'i Department of Education authorized the company to provide services through the No Child Left Behind Act. Kids Talk Story is now being offered in over 35 schools across Hawaii and on the Mainland.
Ms. South formed The Learning for a Lifetime Foundation and recently opened the Homework Help Center in downtown Honolulu, providing free snacks and homework help to underserved, at-risk children after school. She lectures and offers seminars on topics in education, writing, and creativity in Hawaii and on the Mainland. She is an advocate for children in the public educational system. She has appeared at the Women in Film Convention in Washington, D.C., the Maui Writers’ Conference, and American Pen Women in Honolulu. Ms. South resides with her husband and two children in Honolulu.
